In fact, many of the outdoor pursuits you’ve been enjoying all summer and fall can still be enjoyed in the winter! There’s still plenty of Columbia River Gorge hiking, for example – you may just need a pair of snowshoes for some of the more mountainous trails! Beyond a fun range of outdoor pursuits, there are plenty more things to do in the Columbia River Gorge this winter – and we have a curated list of ideas below!

  1. As we mentioned, hiking is one of the best things to do in the Columbia River Gorge, even when the deep chill of winter snow sets in. We’d love to recommend some of our favorite winter hikes for you!
  2. There are plenty of Columbia River Gorge waterfalls that offer beautiful winter scenery, but arguably one of the most iconic is Multnomah Falls.
  3. Beat the chill and browse the many great shops in downtown Hood River. There are also plenty of Hood River wineries and breweries for a cozy afternoon drink. 
  4. Enjoy an afternoon of Nordic skiing or snowshoeing at one of the fantastic Washington Sno Parks nearby. Alternatively, there’s a great Nordic Center at Cooper Spur Mountain Resort near Mount Hood. 
  5. We can’t talk about skiing without mentioning Mount Hood, home to several popular ski areas, including Mt. Hood Skibowl, Timberline Ski Resort, Mt. Hood Meadows, Timberline Summit Pass Ski Area, and Cooper Spur Ski Area.
