Did you know that the Columbia River Gorge is considered one of the nation’s top 10 destinations to view beautiful fall foliage? Not surprisingly, Northwest Travel Magazine has a wonderful article in their new Fall issue that describes the 8 Best Columbia River Gorge Hikes!
Some of the hikes are just a short drive from our Washington bed and breakfast, so it’s a particularly good time to come visit.
Fall is definitely in the air around here. The abundant deciduous trees around our own landscaping are showing more color every day, as are the native vine maples, big leaf maples and numerous other beauties on the Gorge mountainsides. Simply stunning, especially with all our conifers as a contrast.
The air has that fresh, crisp feeling which always seems more pronounced in the Columbia River Gorge. And it smells like apples, perhaps because our apple tree is still producing big baskets of luscious, tasty fruit. We’ve treated guests to our local fruit all summer – local as in the bounty that comes from Hood River, but also local as in the fruit available right here. We’ve enjoyed pears and apples, blackberries and yummy Italian prunes from our next-door neighbor.
Come stay with us soon to do some hiking, and you’ll still be able to pick your apple right off the tree. Have a sit on your private porch swing and take in the fall view as you munch your apple. Then retire to your cozy cabin for an evening in front of your toasty fireplace.
