Larch Mountain. No, not Large Mountain – Larch Mountain! You know the 14 mile drive off of Historic Highway 30? WHAT? You’ve never been there? Well, have I got a treat for you!
Larch Mountain
Larch Mountain is actually an extinct volcano. We have a couple of those around here. This particular peak can be reached on paved Larch Mountain Road, 16 miles east of Corbett, Oregon. From the north side of the large parking lot hiking trails lead to the amazing reason you would want to go to Larch Mountain to begin with. But before I tell you why – here is just a bit more info about the mountain.
Larch Mountain is home to impressive groves of western hemlock, Douglas-fir, and some noble fir. Many of the trees are 400 years old or more! Pack the camera for this little jaunt for sure. Although elevations range from only 2700′ to 3400′, there is often a heavy winter snow pack. Mid-May or even June is usually the earliest you should make your way to the mountain.
What You Can See
And now the BIGGEST reason to go to Larch Mountain. I kid you not – there is an outstanding view of Mount Hood, Mount Adams, Mount Jefferson, Mount St Helens and Mount Rainer all from Larch Mountain.
