By far, the most popular activity to enjoy in the Mt. Hood National Forest is hiking. There are about 1,000 miles of trails waiting to be explored. Some of these trails are shared by cyclists, while others will take you into some secret gems of the forest. Some popular trails include the Pacific Crest Trail and those in both the Clackamas and ZigZag Ranger Districts. The Pacific Crest Trail is a particular favorite, featuring a long-distance hiking and equestrian pathway that runs through the national forest. And be sure to bring a picnic for a scrumptious and rewarding lunch at a scenic overlook.

Along with hiking, there are several other ways you can experience nature in the Mt. Hood National Forest. Bicycling, fishing, horseback riding, and scenic driving are a few other opportunities. There are both mountain biking and road cycling options, offering a range of terrains to navigate. In fact, 44 trails featuring 140 miles of cycling space are ideal for a thrilling adventure in the national forest. If casting a line is more your sport, then try fishing in the Mt. Hood National Forest. Lake, pond, river, and stream fishing opportunities abound for both the beginner and experienced angler. There are many other water activities in the Mt. Hood National Forest for you to enjoy. These include boating and swimming in over 150 lakes and 14 scenic rivers. Try soaking in the hot springs for an extra special experience.
