About the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center

The Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center is located in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area about 10 minutes away from Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins. Their goal is to share the story of this incredible area with everyone that visits. Here, you will find historic information, artifacts, and more that will teach you all about the Gorge. Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center Exhibits

The Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center has a variety of exhibits that span from its original inhabitants, the Cascade Chinook, to discussing the future of the area. So much has gone into the history of the Gorge, and these 13 exhibits and demonstration spaces will tell you all about it. Here are some of the most popular displays that you can’t miss.

First Peoples

The First Peoples Exhibit is all about the first inhabitants of the Columbia River Gorge: the Cascade Chinook. Here, you will get to see artifacts like handmade baskets, ceremonial dress, and more. Each is accompanied by text explaining its use as well as the Chinook’s traditions and culture.

Clahclehlah and the Corridor of Commerce

Do you remember learning about Lewis and Clark in history class? The Clahclehlah and the Corridor of Commerce will dive even deeper into their story. This iconic duo visited the village of Clahclehlah in 1805 and 1806, and this exhibit will tell you all about it.

Early Changes

Early Changes is all about the pioneer communities that made their homes around the Columbia River. Here, you will get to see a lifesize recreation of the Doumitt Store filled with the typical dry goods the residents would buy. Learn all about the early days when you visit this exhibit!

Transportation

As more and more people moved to the Columbia River Gorge, more transportation was needed. One of the biggest turning points in its history was the development of the railroad. At this Transportation Exhibit, you can see early railroad artifacts and photos about the evolution of transportation.
